a successful life. A.R.Y.A. teaches youth how to build healthy,

is a Secular edition and a Christian A.R.Y.A available.
A.R.Y.A. equips youth with practical tools and skills that include
promoting responsibility for more peacefully interpreting
events and teaching skills for recognizing and lessening destructive
behaviors.
Participant Goals also include:

- Avoiding faulty assumptions (more peaceful interpretation
of others)
- Addressing money management, responsibility and budgeting
- Managing emotional triggers/upsets/anger
- Implementing effective, respectful conflict resolution
- Awareness of personal safety and breaking
cycles of violence

Topics are typically presented in 45-minute sessions
| Session One: Effective Communication Skills |
| Whether you tend toward introversion (being more quiet) or
extroversion (being more talkative), learn to share information
clearly and to hear information without distortion. Learn the
impact of optimistic styles and pessimistic styles of thinking
and learn successful communication techniques to use with friends,
co-workers and loved ones.
| Session Two: Using the Brain
for Positive Perspectives |
| Learn why you react the way you do- Brain Physiology. Learn
to engineer optimal reactions rather than letting life control
you. Learn power thinking to shape healthy perspectives and increase
success in all areas of life. Examine the origins of your hot
buttons/triggers and decide whether past coping mechanisms are
outdated and what will work for success. Explore the
mechanisms of anger, learn to respect anger’s power to
distort and use feelings wisely rather than letting them control
you. | |
| Session Three: Understanding
Money Beliefs and Values |
Learn about your money style and a frame of reference for
the many ways to manage money. Learn to work with others who
may differ from you and learn how to quell resentment and even
appreciate differences. Learn the pitfalls of power struggles
and set up your money life to be successful.
| Session Four: Planning and
Managing Money |
| Practice creating a budget and adjusting for different variables
in life. Examine your views about money, and different ways to
handle finances. This section also addresses ways that men and
women can be different when dealing with money, and provides
questions that can help identify expectations
about money in future relationships. |
|
| Session Five: Managing Anger
and Building Family Safety |
| Learn the specific tools of anger management techniques. Anger
distorts thinking and is counter productive to choosing behaviors
that get you what you really want in life. Train yourself to
control your own physiology and give yourself greater opportunities
for life success. |
|
| Session Six: Defining and
Changing Destructive Behavior |
| You may think you know when you are acting destructively, but
it may surprise you to know that even most adults don’t!
They think what they are doing is acceptable and besides that,
it is what they have always done. Learn to recognize daily destructive
habits and substitute habits that ensure your success for a rich,
satisfying life. |
|
| Session Seven: Tools for
Resolving Differences with Respect |
| Know that you know what NOT to do. Learn step-by- step procedures
for resolving differences that result in good feelings between
people rather than lingering resentment. See examples of conversations
that end well. |
|
| Session Eight: Peer Practice
to Resolve Conflict and Overcome Trouble |
| Review the techniques of conflict resolution and practice the
techniques. Practice peer coaching to help others move
more smoothly through differences of opinions. These skills are
necessary to navigate life well. They pay off for a lifetime
with friends, co-workers and loved ones. |
|
| Session Nine: Romance, Physical
Attraction, and Commitment |
| Learn the “Biology of Love” and why people do such
crazy things. Learn about human chemistry and its ability to
distort the thinking of otherwise intelligent people! Learn how
to make choices in spite of desire and reap the long-term rewards
of “right” choices. |
|
| Session Ten: Choosing Relationships
Wisely |
| Learn what to look for in friends, businesses to work for,
or a partner. Make sure you are choosing wisely the people with
whom you spend your time, effort and life. Making unwise choices
can cost you dearly. Learn the skills to choose associations
that will make your life much more pleasant, more fun, and more
successful. |
|
| Session Eleven: Life Goals
and Responsible Planning |
| Learn to live each day well and in a balanced way. Set up practical
habits that keep connections strong and allow you to live your
dreams, reflect your values and experience the goodwill of others.
Learn techniques for meeting, greeting, parting, communicating
regularly, and establishing stronger bonds with those you care
to know. |
|
| Session Twelve: Celebrating
Strengths |
| Determine your values and your strengths. Decide what it will
take to live according to what you cherish most, giving those
things the most of your effort and attention. Learn not to be
diverted by life’s “squeaky wheels” and to
proactively build your dreams into a reality for long-term success. |
