About the program:
Active Relationships for Young Adults (ARYA)

A set of twelve 45-minute sessions for 9th-12th graders to teach valuable life skills, Active Relationships for Young Adults (A.R.Y.A.)  teaches students to communicate effectively and to successfully resolve issues encountered in daily life.    A.R.Y.A. targets  important objectives such as the student’s own responsibility for feelings of happiness and positive, successful behaviors, especially respect of self and others.
A.R.Y.A. aims to increase emotional intelligence, awareness of and management of triggers and the power of each individual to control his/her own inner climate, regardless of life’s twists and turns. Students learn to plan successful choices to get needs met.
   A. R. Y. A. teaches practical tools for communication,  techniques for anger management  and resolution of differences with others.  These are life changing skills
that have far reaching effects for students as they make their way to and through adulthood.

It is NEVER too soon. Join in now!

Life Skills for Use with Friends,
Family and Marriage Partners and Co-Workers
Topics are typically presented in 45-minute sessions

Session One               Effective Communication Skills – Whether you are tend toward introversion (being more quiet) or extroversion (being more talkative), learn to share information clearly and to hear information without distortion. Learn the impact of optimistic styles and pessimistic styles of thinking and learn successful communication techniques to use with friends, co-workers and loved ones.

Session Two              Money Personalities, Bridging Gaps and Managing Yours – Learn the style you have and a frame of reference for the many ways to manage money. Learn to work with others who may differ from you and learn how to quell resentment and even appreciate differences. Learn the pitfalls of power struggles and set up your money life to be successful.

Session Three            Using Your Brain   for Positive Perspectives - Learn why you react the way you do- Brain Physiology. Learn to engineer optimal reactions rather than letting life control you. Simple animals have no choice except to run mazes as expected, but humans with high intellect can use skills to their advantage.

Session Four              Inner Climate Control (Part I- Managing Triggers) – Learn power thinking to shape healthy perspectives and increase success in all areas of life. Examine your hot buttons/triggers. Examine their origins and decide whether past coping mechanisms are outdated and what will work for success. Explore the mechanisms of anger, learn to respect anger’s power to distort and use feelings wisely rather than letting them control you.

Session Five               Inner Climate Control (Part II-Anger Management) – Learn the specific tools of anger management techniques. Anger distorts thinking and is counter productive to choosing behaviors that get you what you really want in life. Train yourself to control your own physiology and give yourself greater opportunities for life success.

Session Six                 Defining Destructive Behavior – You may think you know when you are acting destructively but it may surprise you to know that most adults don’t! They think what they are doing is acceptable and besides that, it is what they have always done. Learn to recognize daily destructive habits and substitute habits that ensure your success for a rich, satisfying life.

Session Seven                        Resolving Differences for Success (Part I-Steps of Positive Conflict Resolution) – Now that you know what NOT to do, learn step-by- step procedures for resolving differences that result in good feelings between people rather than lingering resentment. See a demonstration and learn to do peer coaching.

Session Eight              Resolving Differences for Success (Part II-Practice and Peer Coaching) – Review the techniques of conflict resolution and practice the techniques.  Practice peer coaching to help others move more smoothly through differences of opinions. These skills are necessary to navigate life well. They pay off for a lifetime, with friends, co-workers and loved ones.

Session Nine              Savvy Choices for Dating, Marriage and for Working with Members of the Opposite Gender (Part I-Your Own Biology) – Learn the “Biology of Love” and why people do such crazy things. Learn about human chemistry and its ability to distort thinking of otherwise intelligent people! Learn how to make choices in spite of desire and reap the long-term rewards of “right” choices.

Session Ten                Savvy Choices for Dating, Marriage and for Working with Members of the Opposite Gender (Part II-Choosing Friends and Partners) – Learn what to look for in friends, businesses to work for, or a partner. Make sure you are choosing wisely the people with whom you spend your time, effort and life. Making unwise choices can cost you dearly. Learn the skills to choose associations that will make your life much more pleasant, more fun and more successful.

Session Eleven           Setting Up Daily Habits for a Great Life – Learn to live each day well, as if it is the last and as if it is how you want to be known. Set up practical habits that keep connections strong and allow you to live your dreams, your values and experience the goodwill of others. Learn techniques for meeting, greeting, parting, communicating regularly and establishing stronger bonds with those you care to know.

Session Twelve          Character, Values & Goals for Long-Term Success – Determine your values and your goals. Decide what it will take to live according to what you cherish most, giving those things the most of your effort and attention. Learn not to be diverted by life’s “squeaky wheels” and to proactively build your dreams into a reality for long-term success.
