Description: Created in collaboration with military
communities, this skills-based program addresses the
challenges of reintegration for singles and couples
and provides resilience building tools.
Purposes of Workshop: To provide highlights of skills and tools
of the Active Military Life Skills and Resiliency curriculum. Additionally, to provide selected skills
and tools (time permitting) during the 90 minutes that
can be used immediately with military personnel.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The training will certify participants

Background:
Active Relationships Curricula has been
developed from the author’s first-hand experience
leading marriage education courses since 1997. The Active
Relationships programs are widely utilized in military
settings, in federally funded healthy marriage education
sites and in faith-based arenas.
Janie Illing, MA,
will lead the workshop with the assistance of Kelly
Simpson. Ms. Illing brings several decades of
experience with military families. Her
most previous assignment prior to retirement included
work at USAFE major command supervising family support
command-wide on behalf of military families. Ms.
Illing currently serves as special advisor to the Active
Relationships Center military program development.
Kelly Simpson, MA a
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, is director
of the Active Relationships Center in Dallas, Texas
a 2006 and 2007 federal HMI award recipient. Recent
military work has included trainings for the Army,
National Guard and for Air Force Europe. Simpson also
serves as Executive Director for the Hispanic Active
Relationships Project (H.A.R.P.) and as consultant
for HIAS, a national refugee organization assisting
refugee agencies in establishing healthy marriage communities.
She is nationally recognized for her work with couples
to
promote marriage education ranging from
communication and resolution, to romance and creating
lasting love. A lifetime certified teacher of the deaf,
Simpson has blended the best of the best relationships
skills for marriage education for youth. She has authored
numerous articles and has been featured in national media
including NBC Nightly News, FOX, CBS, Wall Street Journal,
Dallas Business Journal, Dallas Morning News, and Psychology
Today. A frequent lecturer, Simpson has been an author
and faculty member of the State Bar of Texas Advanced
Family Law Seminar. She conducts international professional
trainings for mental health professionals, agencies,
military personnel, clergy and lay leaders as well as
Active Relationships classes for couples and youth.
